"One-of-a-kind"

All of our pendulums are designed and created by AYP pendulum maker, Eva Browning (that's me!) When I am able to, I love to create special designs that are limited to a single piece, like the one shown here. These original, "One-of-a-kind" designs only come around a few times a year and feature premium quality weight-stones, gemstones and sterling silver components that I craft into unique, meaningful, functional works of art.

Artist's note about whales

I'm an avid whale-watcher, and a total head-over-heals whale-lover. I've taken thousands of photos of Hawaiian Humpback Whales in action and yet, I can never get enough. I love everything about whales, including their ability to communicate great distances - up to 10,000 miles! Most people have heard recordings of whale songs - haunting, beautiful, unusual sounds that sooth and mesmerize. Maybe you've even been fortunate enough to hear a "live" whale song, captured and amplified by way of a hydrophone lowered into active whale waters. It's a pretty exciting listening experience. I never expected to hear a whale singing with my own naked ears, but I did and I'll never forget it.

While swimming in the Pacific Ocean near the island of Maui, I caught sight of a green sea turtle, so I dove under to have a better look. My head wasn't underwater for more than a few seconds when I heard the unmistakably clear, soul-filling sound of a whale singing - presumably somewhere nearby. Well, "nearby" could have been miles away, but the song was loud enough for me to seriously wonder if I should be looking out for something a lot bigger than the turtle. I listened for several minutes until eventually the song faded into the distance. After this experience, my sense of connection to whale energy deepened and now feels utterly personal. Even before this, the Humpback Whale was my main, go-to spirit animal, and it still is. I truly loved making this pendulum and my whale song experience is what I thought/felt about as I created it. I hope this pendulum helps facilitate and deepen its user's connection to whale energy and intuition.

Symbolism

Humpback Whales are well known for their beautiful “song” - a specific pattern of vocalizations (sung only by males). This song morphs on an annual basis, but in spite of its changing nature, somehow all whales know what the current version of the song is and how to sing it. Using a type of sonar called echo-location, whales navigate and communicate with each other across vast distances. In this, they help us understand the sacred power of water and the importance of taking time to listen. Whale energy reconnects us to our innate creative and intuitive energies, showing us talents we've forgotten about or haven't been aware existed. They remind us to tap into hidden levels of our mind so that we can remember our past and heal its wounds. The whale’s tail (called a "fluke") symbolizes power, protection, speed, good fortune, mystery, and sensitivity.
